PARK TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT
The
Park Township Fire Department is a Volunteer, Part-Paid department of
approximately 36 Firefighters. We are dispatched through Ottawa County Central
Dispatch whenever a Park Township resident dials 911 with a Fire Department
related issue. The Township has an ISO rating of fire insurance class 6/9.
Station #1, also called the
Virginia Park Fire Station, is located at 644 S. 160th Avenue in south Park
Township. This Station was built in 2003 as a joint venture with the City
of Holland. The facility houses two departments, Park Township Station #1
and Holland City Station #3. Park Township Station #1 has two fire engines
and is equipped to provide fire protection, carbon monoxide monitoring, and
First Responder medical services to south Park Township residents. The
majority of south Park Township dwellings and buildings are within 1,000
feet of a fire hydrant.
Station #2 was built in
1996 at 12 S. 160th Avenue in north Park Township. This Station
provides fire protection, carbon monoxide monitoring and secondary First
Responder medical services if Holland/ Park Township E-units are not
available. Station #2 houses an engine, a pumper/tanker, a utility truck, a
brush truck, and a 16' flat-bottomed boat for water rescue. The pumper/tanker
was delivered in September 2002 and has a 2,500 gallon water tank. Its
primary function is supplying water to non-hydranted areas within the
township. Approximately one-half of the dwellings and buildings north of
Lake Macatawa are within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant. Mutual aid
relationships with Holland City, Holland Township, and Port Sheldon Township
will provide additional water if needed.
Another important service
the Fire Department offers is that of educating the public about fire
safety. Firefighters regularly visit elementary schools within our
jurisdiction to educate students in Fire Safety. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
preschools, home school groups, churches, and other organizations visit our
stations for tours. We will bring an engine to a subdivision picnic or
other gatherings to educate our residents and show them what our department
does in an emergency. Please call Station #2 (616-399-7388) for
information.
We are proud of our
department and the dedicated people who serve. Applications for Volunteer,
Part-paid Firefighter positions are always accepted and can be picked up at
the Township office or by calling Station #2.
